Syngenta Rep: IP Needed with New Product Offerings
April 29, 2007

Source: Illinois Farm Bureau
A Syngenta representative deems improved grain identity preservation (IP) vital to assuring specialty and GMO corn not yet cleared for global markets, moves only into proper channels. Decatur-based Archer Daniels Midland Co. last week advised corn suppliers that “as of this date,” it will not accept Agrisure RW rootworm-resistant corn.

Syngenta released Agrisure RW in March following final federal product approvals, but it has received no approval for global sales. Syngenta is asking growers buying Agrisure RW varieties to sign a Grain Use/Marketing Commitment. Under that agreement, growers pledge to market harvested corn outside export or ethanol “wet mill” channels that sell feed co-products to Europe and other global markets and observe proper GMO corn field stewardship and buffer requirements. Syngenta head of corn marketing Chuck Lee said “farmers should have the right to plant products that increase yield,” as long as they have full U.S. approval.
